Updated April 29th, 2019.
Back in September Apple introduced three iPhones (iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR) but only the first two went on sale that day. The XR is now available for pre-order, and will be available in stores starting October 26th, 2018.
Here are prices for the current iPhone line-up.
iPhone XS Max, 256 GB: $1,249
iPhone XS, 256 GB: $1,149
iPhone XR, 256 GB: $899
iPhone 8 Plus, 256 GB: $849
iPhone 8, 256 GB: $749
iPhone 7 Plus, 128 GB: $669
iPhone 7, 128 GB: $549
This video (narrated by Jonny Ive) gives you an overview of all three phones. Listen for Jonny to say “aluminium” at 2:50– always a highlight!
(Of course most people will put these phones on an installment plan of some sort. Hardly anyone pays full price up front.)
I would recommend the 8 or 8 Plus over the 7 and 7 Plus if you want a Home button, and any of the X models otherwise. You will have to learn a few new gestures with the no-Home-button phones, but if a trillion other people have already done it you can too. Whatever you do, get a lot of storage. You can’t upgrade storage on an iPhone so buy it with as much as you can afford.
Here’s the link to Apple’s iPhone Comparison page. I strongly suggest you explore this page while choosing an iPhone model. I also strongly suggest you visit an Apple Store to see the phones in person. Hold them in your hand, see if they’ll fit in your pocket or purse (I would ask the nearest Apple Store employee if it’s ok for you to test the fit that way). I like the XS over the XR. Ask me about it.
