Apple’s launched their annual “Back to School” promotion, offering free Beats Solo3 Wireless Headphones with purchase of a qualifying Mac or iPad Pro. Technically, Apple isn’t actually offering free headphones. Instead, what they offer is a “Promotion Savings” when you buy a combination of a “Qualifying Product” (such as a Mac or iPad) with a “Promotion Product” (such as Beats headphones), at the same time.
If you purchase a Mac, it turns out the headphones’ cost will be completely covered by the “Promotion Savings,” which the rest of us would call “free.” With an iPad purchase, the Promotion Savings top out at $199.95, which is enough to cover the cost of Beats Solo3 Wireless headphones but not the cost of the Beats Studio3 Wireless headphones. Still, a $199.95 discount is pretty good.
You have to purchase between July 9th and September 26th, 2019 and to be eligible you have to be a college student, a parent buying for a college student, or a faculty or staff member at any grade level. If you’re an elected or appointed member of a school board, or an elected or appointed officer of a PTA or PTO, you’re also eligible.
Buy your Mac (or iPad Air, or iPad Pro) through the Apple Online Store for Education. Or, buy it at your school’s Authorized Campus Apple store. Or, buy it at an Apple Retail store and tell them you want the education discount (bring an acceptance letter or a school ID). You’ll save at least $50 that way, probably $100, and maybe more than that.
So… you save money on the cost of the machine, AND you get free wireless headphones (worth up to $299.95). Just about every Mac qualifies, including MacBooks, MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs, iMacs, and Mac Pros (all Macs except the Mac mini).
iPad Airs and iPad Pros also qualify. Refurbished items are not eligible and neither are the non-Pro and non-Air iPads, nor the 2017 MacBook Pro 13 inch. One per customer. You may have to provide documentation showing you are a qualified purchaser.
Note: “Qualified Purchaser” may include you! Look who qualifies:
- Any employees of a public or private K-12 institution in the United States.
